Cruise arrivals to The Bahamas have grown by 76 percent between 2000 and 2012, according to data recently released, with overall revenue generated from cruise arrivals ballooning by over 850 percent to just under $400 million per annum over the same period.

Now we need to set our sights on assisting another group of promising Bahamians with pursuing a career in tourism.

More hotels failed to turn a profit in 2013 than were able to do so, with slipping profitability last year reversing a four-year trend of improving income in the Bahamian tourism industry, according to the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism    Association, whose president yesterday expressed “great concern” about the decline in hotel performance.
