More than 5,000 visitors are expected to come through the doors of a major two-day conference and trade show starting today.

The 2009 Energy Conference and Business Trade Show (view the agenda here – PDF) opens today at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort with around 50 vendors offering their wares to visitors.

Today sees the conference organized by a partnership of Bahamas Hotel Association, the Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Embassy aimed at discussing energy solutions for businesses.

Voted Best Fashion Show or Fashion Week attended at the Caribbean Fashion Awards earlier this year it is the foremost local fashion week attracting local and international designers as well as international press, buyers and stylists. Though only in its second year, it provides a viable fashion outlet not only for local designers, but also for stylists, models, fashion journalists, fashion retailers and a host of other fashion and entertainment professionals.

Nearly a year after 800 people were laid off from the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, property officials are planning to hire approximately 200 people to fill positions that will become available later this year with the opening of two new facilities, according to President and Managing Director of Kerzner International Bahamas George Markantonis.
