
First and foremost, our hearts and our minds remain focused on those in Grand Bahama and Abaco who have suffered greatly due to Hurricane Dorian.
The Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association which is a part of NEMA’s ESF 12 Team, has transitioned from assisting The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and partner public and sector agencies to get ready for Hurricane Dorian; to supporting the mammoth response and relief efforts directed at persons from Grand Bahama and Abaco who have been devastated by the impact of this once-in-a-generation weather disaster.
Our primary role has been, and continues to be a private-public sector liaison for varying facets of relief efforts. Immediately after the passing of the storm; the BHTA aimed its focus on assisting NEMA; its cadre of underlying public sector agencies, and private sector facilitators whose primary task was to receive, welcome and document evacuees. Displaced persons were then transported, via public sector agencies and private sector donors to government shelters. Evacuees, who had gone through so much found respite thanks to the incredible efforts of the public and private sector who opened, staffed and procured supplies such as food and bedding for the vast influx of displaced persons from Abaco and Grand Bahama.
