CSHAE Elects 2012-2013 Leadership

At its recent Annual General Meeting (AGM), held prior to Caribbean Travel Marketplace, members of the Caribbean Society of Hotel Association Executives (CSHAE) elected its leadership and Board of Directors to guide the region’s association executives during the 2012-13 term.  CSHAE executives also hammered out a strategic plan for the region’s hotel associations and agreed to renew financial support for the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association Education Foundation’s (CHTAEF) Haiti Relief Fund which provides training programs to help rebuild the nation’s tourism talent base, much of which was lost as a result of the devastating earthquake two years ago.

Caribbean Marketplace is the premier marketing event of the Caribbean hospitality industry, it encompasses two days of business meetings that match buyers and suppliers through a computerized program of appointments. The business appointments set the tone of vacation packaging over the next year.

The format of the event is two days of pre-scheduled business appointments. Buyers and Suppliers meet face-to-face to discuss existing contracts, develop packages, and contract for future business.

Prime Minister Outlines Support for Industry and Commends BHA Member Volunteerism
 
Members of the Bahamas Hotel Association reaffirmed their commitment to last year’s leadership team by re-electing the 2011 team for another year.  The election was held last month at the organization’s 59th Annual General Meeting which was followed by a luncheon, where the Prime Minister offered the keynote address.
 
Stuart Bowe, Senior Vice President at Atlantis, who was re- elected President, thanked BHA members for their support in 2011.  “I wish to thank the members, our Executive Committee, and our staff for giving me the opportunity to serve as your President in 2011.  It has been a year of positive change and continued challenges both for BHA and our industry” he stated while reporting on the year’s accomplishments and challenges.

Summary Performance Report For Major Nassau-PI Hotels

According to preliminary statistics released by the Bahamas Hotel Association and The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, the 14-major New Providence hotels recorded a 63.9% occupancy rate for November 2011 compared to 55% in November 2010. Room nights sold increased by 14.1% and hotel room revenue by 16.2%.There was a$3.69 increase in the average daily room rate (ADR). The November 2011 ADR was $201.23 compared to $197.54 for November 2010. Available room nights remained unchanged compared to 2010.

BHA and Kerzner International Donate To Red Cross

Several hundred residents in Cat Island and the Family Islands who were victims of Hurricane Irene will rest better over the holidays and next year as a result of a contribution of mattresses, frames, linens and other items which have been donated to the Bahamas Red Cross by the Bahamas Hotel Association and Atlantis.
