Hotels Report Occupancy Gains; Struggle With Room Rates

According to preliminary statistics released by the Bahamas Hotel Association and The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, the 14-major New Providence hotels recorded a 77.7% occupancy rate for June 2012 compared to 68.7% in June 2011. Room revenue increased by 8.3% on the strength of a 12.6% increase in room nights sold.  However, the June 2012 Average Daily Rate (ADR) was $228.04 compared to $237.05 in June 2011.

Summer Educator Internship Program Highly Successful

Over sixty educators recently invested a weeks’ summer vacation volunteering their time to learn about the more than 1,000 different types of careers in the tourism industry through their participation in the summer educator’s internship program, an initiative of the Bahamas Hotel Association, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Tourism.

Bahamian Students Capture Lion’s Share Of CHTAEF Scholarship Awards

Minister Fitzgerald Joins CHTAEF Trustee and BHA President in Presenting Awards

Thanks to the support from nineteen BHA members and CHTAEF’s corporate supporters, eight Bahamian students have been awarded $47,000 worth of scholarships to pursue their tourism-related studies during the upcoming school year.
