LPIA New US Terminal Opens March 16
Additional information about the overall terminal improvement plans and a design overview showing the key developments over the course of the three stages:
Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) is operated by the Nassau Airport Development Company (NAD).
NAD is owned by the Bahamas Government and is under a 10-year management agreement with Vancouver Airport Services (YVRAS).
The LPIA Redevelopment Project is budgeted at $409.5 million, with a timeline from 2009 to 2013, and three stages of development.
Stage 1 involves the construction of the new US Departures Terminal at 247,000 square feet, at an actual cost of $191 million, for completion in March 2011
Stage 1: The new US Departures Terminal will be completed in just 600 days from groundbreaking to going live in March 2011
Stage 1: More than 1 million man hours will have been used on the project
Stage 1: Approximately 2,000 tons of structural steel, 17,000 cubic yards of concrete and 1,075 tons of reinforcing steel have gone into the project
Stage 2 involves selective demolition of the existing US Departures Terminal and construction of a new International Arrivals Terminal and Pier at 226,000 square feet, at a projected cost of $129 million, for completion in the Fall of 2012
Stage 3 involves the construction of a new Domestic/International Departures and new Domestic Arrivals Terminal at 112,000 square feet, at a projected cost of $84 million, for completion in the Fall of 2013
All three stages when completed will result in a total of 585,000 square feet, with an additional 1 million square feet of aircraft operating surface
Passenger capacity will increase by 50%, enabling more than 5 million passengers to be processed through LPIA
Relaxation! LPIA will feature beautiful gardens. Two gardens will be located at either end of the completed terminals, and two gardens will be inserted between the three terminals
Art! Approximately $2 million in Bahamian art throughout the three stages including the works of artists John Beadle, Nicole Sweeting, Susan Katz-Lightbourn and John Cox in stage one.
Shopping! In the new US Departures Terminal there are eight retail outlets: Uniquely Bahamian, The Last Straw, Pirana Joe, My Ocean, John Bull, Bahama Sol, Cays News & Gifts, Duty-Free Liquors; there are also two retail kiosks: Tortuga Rum Cakes, Caribbean Lighthouse; and one retail cart: Beth’s Kitchen
Eating and Drinking! In the new US Departures Terminal there are five food outlets: Kafe Kalik (sit-down restaurant), Bahama Dutch Oven, Quiznos, Wendy’s, Dunkin Donuts; there are three beverage outlets: Bootleggers Bar, Elixir Lounge, Graycliff Lounge
