First Alternative Energy Marketing Competition Successful

Eight high schools including: Mount Carmel, C.V. Bethel, C.W. Saunders, Temple Christian, St. Anne’s, C. I. Gibson, Queen’s College, and C. R. Walker participated in the competition. This competition is a part of the November 12-14 Bahamas Energy Conference and Trade Show, and was sponsored by the Sheraton Nassau Beach Hotel.

The students worked in groups of six to design a marketing campaign to promote energy efficiency in students’ communities and homes. Their campaign had to promote a specific energy efficient tool i.e. natural gas, solar panels, CFL light bulbs, public transportation, water conservation, wind power, etc. and explain why it would be effective in improving energy conservation in The Bahamas.

The marketing plan included: a one minute recorded media jingle, a full-color poster, a slogan, and a one page marketing plan outlining why the group chose the slogan and why it will be an effective way to reach the public. All the presentations were creative, and the students were excited to create and present alternative energy ideas for the future.

United States Ambassador Nicole Avant will announce the first, second and third place winners at the Bahamas Energy Conference and Trade Show scheduled for November 12 at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Hotel.

The second place team will win a one-day, all-expense paid trip to the Island School, Cape Eleuthera sponsored by New Oriental Laundry, the Poop Deck Restaurants, BahamasWaste, Ferreira and Company, Islands by Design, Reiss Engineering, Morganti Texas, Inc., National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators and Developers (NABHOOD), and HVS Global Hospitality Services.

The third place prize is a Blue Lagoon Eco-Adventure Package donated by Dolphin Encounter. These prizes were selected to impart to the next generation the principals of environmental stewardship and sustainable living practices. Each member of the top three teams will also receive day passes to the Atlantis Aqua Adventure Water Park, courtesy of Kerzner International.
