BHA Golf Tournament Tees Off For Scholarships

“We are pleased that golfers and businesses are coming together to support the tournament. Their efforts last year helps us to surpass over $100,000 in scholarships which have been granted to students over the past five years” stated Robert Sands, President of the Bahamas Hotel Association.

The golf tournament has grown in stature and participation since it was first established in 1999. In addition to supporting student scholarships and education-related activities, in the past the tournament has also assisted with hurricane relief efforts in Grand Bahama and last year in Inagua.

“The tournament has broad support from the nation’s business community and suppliers of goods and services to the industry, providing an avenue to have fun while supporting worthwhile causes. In particular, it is an event well-supported by many of those businesses which benefit from the hotel and tourism industry and is a way in which they thank us for the role we play in the industry” he added.

The tournament has become very popular among golfers over the years, who want to show their support for students pursuing careers in tourism as well as to hold bragging rights for landing one of the many prizes which the hotel and travel industry donate to the winners.

This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday, October 4th, 2009 at the Cable Beach Golf Course. REGISTRATION BEGINS AT 7:15 A.M.; TEE-OFF TIME: 7:45 A.M.

“Given the worthwhile and timely causes we are supporting, the tournament is already oversubscribed by golfers as we’ve exceeded our goal of attracting 80 golfers. Despite having a softer economy, we are pleased thus far to see the level of sponsor support which has been forthcoming” stated tournament chairmen Fred Lunn and John Spinks.
