New Approach to Tourism For Pelican Bay Resort
Last week the Pelican Bay resort launched its new logo, “Meet Happy” to portray the hotel’s brand promise to create happy experiences for meetings, weddings and guest stays.
According to general manager, Magnus Alnebeck, this perspective was necessary as more and more persons began staying at the hotel for a predetermined purpose rather than vacation.
“Increasingly Grand Bahama is becoming more of a destination where we have so much more visitors as opposed to tourists who come for vacation.
“It makes every sense for the resort to embrace this situation and reposition itself to cater to this market,” Alnebeck said.
He noted that this process has taken some five years and the new logo which includes a “happy” pelican donning sunglasses, will bring a breath a fresh air to the property.
“It allows for warm experiences at touch points preceeding our guests’ actual arrival at the hotel,” he said.
Pictured in Caribbean secondary colours of turquoise, red orange and yellow, Alnebeck said that the new logo has charisma.
To top off the repositioning, the resort has embarked on a multi-million dollar project to enhance the experience of guests.
By 2010 Alnebeck promises that the Canal House, a five-storey, 30,680 square foot building at the entrance of the property will be completed and will house meeting rooms and conference spaces for events, while continuing to offer vacation experiences to their guests.
He added that the project is a significant investment for a property of its size and when completed will be a prime location for many local and international events.
“We want every business person to know that Pelican Bay is the hotel of choice when visiting Grand Bahama Island.”
He added that The Canal House will eventually increase employment on the island, but not necessarily connected with the resort.
“We believe that we are a hotel and we want to run and operate as such. We may be outsourcing a lot of our things that has to do with events, food and beverage.”
He furthered that the hotel enjoys a close partnership with businesses in The Bahamas and word of mouth referrals have accounted for much of their success.
Pelican Bay at Lucaya is owned by Sundt AS, a private investment company based in Norway and is the only investment that the company has in The Bahamas.
