Tru Tru Bahamian Festival Moved to February

The date has been changed from its initial November 5 date to February 11, 2017 to accommodate several Bahamian vendors who were severely impacted by Hurricane Matthew when it ripped through the islands of The Bahamas October 5 and 6.

The festival, which is in its second year, will be held at the John Watling’s Distillery and looks to bring together all the delicious flavors of The Bahamas along with local entertainment and fun for the kids.

Tru Tru Bahamian Festival is the brainchild of the Bahamas Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and other corporate sponsors.

“BHTA, in the spirit of the Tru Tru movement, recognizes that many of us are still in the process of healing and helping others in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. We understand, now more than ever, the Tru Tru Bahamian Festival will play an important role in the recovery process as we strive to ensure local entrepreneurs are afforded the opportunity to re-establish their respective businesses through events such as this festival,” said BHTA President Stuart Bowe.

“We salute our Tru Tru Bahamian vendors, artists, chefs, artisans, performers and partners; and will work with them to be ready for the Tru Tru Bahamian Festival which will be held on a new date; Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the John Watlings Distillery.”

The festival will welcome throngs of locals and visitors and provide a plethora of authentic experiences; Bahamian sights and sounds showcased through the presentation of art and craft, culinary creations, traditions and representations of cultural expressions from times past. The festival will highlight the vast and diverse archipelago of The Bahamas, and the variety of unique experiences that is indigenous to each island.

Some of the organizations participating in next year’s festival include the Long Island Association; the Andros Crab Association; the FIFA Soccer Association; rake n’ scrape out of Cat Island; Bahamian cultural dancers; fire dancers; the Bahamas National Youth Choir and so much more.
