BHTA President and Executive Committee Meet with BPL
Given that the cost of electricity currently represents a substantive proportion of the cost of doing business in The Bahamas; and the importance of having a consistent supply of electricity, the cadre of senior tourism industry representatives from New Providence and the Family Islands were pleased to glean from the meeting the understanding that BPL’s aim was to achieve, potentially by the end of summer if predictive variables actualized; an actual energy cost savings once BPL achieves a more effective, efficient, environmentally-friendly means of generating and transmitting power.
BPL CEO Whitney Heastie presented meeting attendees with a comprehensive strategy to continue to overhaul and upgrade equipment, to deploy modernized systems and technology; including state of the art efficiency and redundancy capabilities to the generation and transmission infrastructure, to ensure both residential and business consumers will be able to receive a consistent, quality power supply.
Heastie also illustrated BPL’s plans to use enhanced “smart” automated mechanisms alongside sound business policies in a manner which would aim to ensure that operationally, BPL would function as a financially sound, viable institution, better able to achieve its mandate to provide the highest level of service to it’s customers for the foreseeable future.
Carlton Russell, President of the BHTA states: “The meeting with BPL was both illuminating and productive. We look forward to continuing our communication, and to working together on specific initiatives deemed essential to achieving collective goals, many of which were discussed in the meeting today.”
