UB’s Dept of Visual and Performing Arts At The Tru Tru Bahamian Festival

Bahamian food, arts and crafts, entertainment and Junkanoo were also on display. Locals and tourists flocked to the festival from near and far, enjoying authentic Bahamian experiences which featured artists, artisans and entertainers from all over The Bahamas.

After a successful inaugural festival in 2015, UB art students were invited to display and sell a selection of recent work.

They showcased ceramics, paintings and photography in an outdoor gallery that provided an engaging and interactive experience, while exposing students to the networking and business aspects of art.

Organised by Keisha Oliver, Assistant Professor and Visual Arts Programme Coordinator, UB visual arts students included five Art Education Majors (Ashvonn Russell, Minolta Butler, Cordeia Munnings, Rosie Petit, and Shanteena Simms) and four Art Majors (Jonnique Beadle, Aleah Knowles, Matthew Rahming and Sheena Heastie).

UB was well represented at the event with student volunteers assisting as festival stewards along with students and alumni who participated as vendors and performers.
